We are thrilled to announce that ThisWorldMusic’s Ghana program has been named a Top Pick in the 2012 Abroad101 Study Abroad Rankings presented by STA Travel!

Thanks to our amazing participants for so many 5-star reviews, as well as to our partners, without whom this award wouldn’t have been possible: The UMass Amherst International Programs Office and UMass Department of Music & Dance, the Dagbe Cultural Institute and Arts Centre in Kopeyia, Ghana, and the National Dance Company in Accra, Ghana.

Thanks also to Abroad101 and STA Travel for the honor and for their role in promoting international education. The story was recently picked up by USA Today.

The exhaustive award-granting process, based on more than 800,000 data points, used criteria such as total number of reviews, average star rating and recency of reviews.

Here’s an excerpt from the Abroad101 announcement:

“The rankings were determined based on the 16,000 student reviews hosted on Abroad101. Based on the ratings collected from your program’s student alumni, we are proud to recognize your commitment to excellence in international education.”

And here’s what STA Travel had to say:

“We at STA Travel are committed to study abroad and these rankings help students who are starting out on their search disseminate information and narrow down their choices. This comprehensive list gives students, parents and Universities alike an inside look into what’s new for study abroad and all the top notch study abroad options.”
